MissionGo, a provider of unmanned aircraft system (UAS) solutions for inspections and deliveries, announced the successful completion of a 10-day cargo delivery operation in Southeast Michigan in partnership with UAS technology company Airspace Link. Reportedly, this marks the first real-world drone-based cargo delivery project in Michigan.
Flights took place in two locations, namely Taylor Medical Center and across a one-mile stretch between Beaumont Wellness Center and the Big Rock Parking Deck, Michigan. It showcased multiple drone-based cargo deliveries including blood samples, containers of water, and food.
The program was conducted in compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations avoiding flights over people and within the visual line of sight (VLOS). MissionGo is currently in the process of obtaining FAA approvals necessary to conduct flights over people and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).
The companies also collaborated with Beaumont Health Spectrum Health (BHSH), Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), renewable energy company NextEnergy, and metropolitan Detroit community leaders for the program.
