UK-based quantum hardware startup SeeQC has received two grants totaling USD 0.4 million from the US Department of Energy (DOE) as part of USD 54 million in DOE grants awarded to 210 small businesses across 38 states. The grants were given with the aim of accelerating R&D on quantum-enhanced solutions for green energy and climate management.
The first grant, “Development of fabrication process for controlling phononic thermal transport to improve qubit performance,” will focus on building a fabrication process to reduce errors generated by phonons—a form of vibrational energy.
The second grant, “Process development for commercial manufacturing of micromachined millimeter wave components,” will enable SeeQC to manufacture microfabricated silicon-based millimeter wave components in its foundry and encourage industry partnerships to leverage the technology.
