Serve Robotics, a spin-off from Uber that operates delivery droids, has partnered with Piestro, a pizza-making robot developer, to roll out autonomous pizza deliveries to the latter’s customers in the coming months. Piestro will deploy new pizza-making pods within Serve’s delivery areas for the project.
Piestro’s scheduling system will notify Serve’s droids when customers place orders, and the nearest available Serve unit will be deployed to pick up the pizza from the Piestro unit and deliver it to the customer. Customers can retrieve the order by unlocking the droid using a passcode.
A Serve delivery droid can carry up to four Piestro pizzas and promises delivery within 15 minutes.

Analyst QuickTake: Today’s news marks Piestro’s second partnership with an autonomous delivery droid manufacturer, following its first with Kiwibot announced in October 2020. However, the program never went live as we gather. We expect today’s partnership to allow Piestro to truly automate the end-to-end delivery process of its pizzas to customers. We might see the robots first deployed in areas such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, California—where Serve Robotics’ primary operations are based.
