Mushlabs, a Berlin-based biotech startup that develops alternative meats from mycelium, has entered into a partnership with one of Germany’s largest private breweries Bitburger Brewing Group to upcycle byproducts from beer production into edible fermented mycelium. Bitburger is also expected to provide Mushlabs with increased production capacity.
The collaboration will help Mushlabs to decrease its carbon footprint by using fermentation as a more efficient method of protein production. Further, the two companies aim to demonstrate how creating a circular economy can lead to reduced wastage of resources.
