Zipline, a drone-based medical supplies delivery company, has partnered with MultiCare Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare organization, for a commercial drone-based delivery service to deliver medical products across the latter’s facilities in Washington (starting in 2024). This reportedly marks the first drone-based delivery project in Washington.
Initially, the drones will be deployed to serve MultiCare facilities in Tacoma City and will be delivering medical products such as lab samples, medications, and test kits. Regulatory approvals for the project are yet pending.

Analyst QuickTake: Zipline is one of the most advanced startups in the drone delivery space, having conducted 340,000+ commercial deliveries to date—mostly in Africa, where its primary operations are. Today’s partnership adds MultiCare to Zipline’s now growing list of partners in the US, which includes Novant Health, Walmart, Cardinal Health, Intermountain Healthcare, and Magellan Rx Management who joined forces with the company for various drone-based delivery projects in cities in North Carolina, Arkansas, and Utah. Furthermore, we believe Zipline will now be able to expand its presence in the US further, given the recent approval the company received from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to commence commercial drone-based deliveries.
