Huntress acquires Curricula for USD 22 million to add security training to its cybersecurity offerings

M&A

 • Huntress, a managed detection and response (MDR) service provider for SMBs, has acquired Curricula, a security awareness training platform for USD 22 million.

 • Founded in 2015, Curricula leverages behavioral science to train and educate users through a cybersecurity awareness training platform. Curricula’s animation studio uses fun storytelling and animated characters to simulate cyberattacks to help employees recognize, deny, and thwart hacking attempts. The company also offers additional features such as a gamified phishing simulator, story-based training episodes, custom content creation tools, compliance reporting, and more. Curricula has nearly 700 customers and serves thousands of organizations globally. Notable customers include Boys & Girls Club of America, American Automobile Association, and Webflow.

 • Huntress will integrate Curricula's interactive e-learning security awareness training platform into its managed security platform to provide actionable threat training. This will enable SMBs using the managed security platform to educate and train workers on cyber attacks and security matters. The company also plans to recommend specific Curricula training courses to clients based on common threats within a company or industry.

 • Prior to the deal, Huntress tested the Curricula platform in-house, for its own employee security training. This is Huntress’ second acquisition in less than two years. In January 2021, it acquired the endpoint detection and response (EDR) startup Level Effect to expand and strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities.

Analyst QuickTake: Huntress secured USD 40 million in a Series B funding round a year ago. During that period, Huntress served over 25,000 SMBs, but currently protects more than 1.2 million endpoints of over 68,000 organizations, partnering with more than 3,000 service providers.
