French quantum hardware startup Pasqal has partnered with multinational chemical company BASF to explore quantum computing in weather modeling and other computational fluid dynamics applications. The terms and financial details of the partnership have not been disclosed.
The partnership will leverage Pasqal’s neutral atom-based quantum processors to solve complex non-linear differential equations by implementing its quantum neural network algorithm technology—equivalent to the physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) technology generally used for weather and climate modeling.
Through the partnership, BASF will benefit from the quantum-assisted weather predictions to support its digital farming solutions in simulating crop yields, growth stages, and the impact of using crop protection products.
