First Light Fusion, a British fusion energy startup, has signed a long-term agreement with IDOM, a Spanish engineering provider, to develop a fusion reactor chamber.
Under the agreement, First Light and IDOM will collaborate on the design work of a fusion reactor chamber to be deployed at First Light’s pilot fusion energy power plant. The 150-megawatt pilot plant is planned to be launched in the next decade.
IDOM will work with First Light to scope the design, by providing detailed analysis and alternatives for the reactor head, the reactor vessel, and its other components.

Analyst QuickTake : The partnership is followed by First Light’s achievement of fusion energy. The company produced the world’s first fusion result generated using projectile technology in April 2022 . As the next step, First Light plans to develop a “gain” experiment, where the amount of energy created exceeds the amount of energy consumed to spark the reaction. The company also expects to continue its collaboration with IDOM to solve engineering-related issues with the commercialization of fusion energy.
