Upcycled Foods Inc, previously known as ReGrained, a producer of upcycled snacks (such as bars and puffs) from the grain waste originating from beer production, has launched an upcycled protein crisp that it jointly developed in partnership with Kerry, an Irish ingredient and food company.
The two companies have reportedly been in talks since 2016 to develop the upcycled food product. The protein crisps are made with ReGrained’s SuperGrain+ flour, which is developed using spent brewing grains and is now available for purchase through Kerry. Upcycled Foods claims that it has received immediate interest from food manufacturers for the crisp product.
The two companies have reported that they plan to work on other projects to combine Upcycled Food’s expertise alongside Kerry’s expertise in formulation and application.
During the month, ReGrained had rebranded itself into Upcycled Foods Inc to reflect its shift from being a producer of upcycled consumer packaged food products made using spent brewer’s grain into a platform company that develops upcycled food ingredients for partners and its own group of brands.
Prior to this launch, Upcycled Foods had launched two upcycled ingredients: an arabica coffee leaf ingredient and a cacao fruit syrup.
