Save Mart (a grocery store chain operating in California and Nevada) has partnered with the autonomous droid maker Starships Technologies to launch an on-demand grocery delivery service at its flagship store in Modesto, California.
Shoppers can place orders for Save Mart’s products via the Starship’s mobile app, and once the orders are received, Save Mart’s team will load the items into the robot, prior to delivery. The team will be adhering to all the safety requirements, and bots will be sanitized before each order, to ensure contactless autonomous delivery.
The delivery bots can carry a payload of up to 20 pounds (roughly three shopping bags), and travel within a four miles radius.
Starship Technologies is a prominent player in the autonomous droids space having partnerships with several other key retailers and foodservice providers including Dominos (March 2017), Tesco (April 2018), Sodexo (January 2019), Aramark (September 2020), etc, and serving more than 10 universities. In total, the company has completed over 0.5 million autonomous deliveries to date.
