Shiok Meats close to commercial launch by 2023 after achieving cost milestone

Industry news

  • Shiok Meats, a Singapore-based producer of cultivated seafood, has confirmed its plans for commercial launch of its cultivated shrimp by 2023 after it achieved the coveted production cost milestone of USD 50 per kilogram (~USD 22.68 per pound). Previously this value was hovering around the range of USD 10,000–5,000 per kilogram.

  • The company clarified that this price point has been achieved only at the R&D scale so far but that they are confident of achieving the same at the production scale by next year. They further iterated that reaching scale is their main priority much like cultivated chicken in the Singapore market.
