Future Meat Technologies develops cultivated lamb

Product updates

  • Future Meat Technologies, an Israel-based producer of cell-cultured meat, announced it has successfully developed what claims to be the world’s first cultivated lamb meat that cooks and tastes like real lamb.

  • According to the company, this development will allow it to produce cultured lamb at scale while expanding its product offerings prior to launching in the US. The cell lines for production were isolated from Awassi sheep back in 2019 using ovine fibroblast which allows for the cultivation of lamb without animal inputs or genetic modifications.

  • AnalystQuickTake: Lamb is a meat that does not get much attention in the alternative protein space (both cell-cultured and plant-based). However, it is one of the most consumed meats in the European Union, Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Asia. With the company’s plans to break ground on its cultured meat facility in 2022 in the US along with this latest development can help Future Meat become a leader in cultivated lamb pending regulatory approval.
