Factorial Energy opens new battery manufacturing facility

Geographic expansion

 • Factorial Energy, a solid-state battery developer, reported that it will be establishing a new advanced manufacturing facility in Boston, Massachusetts, to produce its new solid-state battery cell technology for EVs.

 • The company will invest USD 45 million in the facility, which will house Factorial’s pilot production to manufacture automotive-sized solid-state batteries at pre-production speed and volume. Operations at the location are expected to begin in early 2023.

Analyst QuickTake: Factorial’s investment in this expansion comes following the company raising USD 200 million in funding in January 2022 to commercialize its solid-state battery technology for use in EVs. The company is currently working with Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis, who participated in the funding round, as well as Hyundai to develop high-performance solid-state EV battery cells for future passenger and commercial vehicles.
