Lacuna joins NASA’s air mobility national campaign for the advancement of airspace solutions

Partnerships

 • Lacuna, a traffic flow management solution provider’s consultancy arm Ellis & Associates, announced that it has joined aeronautical and space technology developer NASA’s advanced air mobility national campaign in the development of air mobility solutions.

 • The partnership allows Lacuna to share its expertise and knowledge in deploying and managing smart mobility solutions such as scooters, delivery robots, and autonomous vehicles in cities. NASA intends to leverage on the shared knowledge for the advancement of urban airspace such as drones and air taxis. It plans to demonstrate its integrated automation capabilities and the scalability of its advanced air mobility (AAM) operations which includes simulations in support of flight testing and operational analysis at test sites. Additionally, the campaign is designed to gather the data required to assist the Federal Aviation Administration to build a legal and regulatory framework for new airspace users.

 • The company also reported that it will be working alongside other campaign partners like Electra.aero (aerospace mobility solution provider), Overair (eVTOL developer) and Supernal (electric air vehicles developer).

Analyst QuickTake: Air traffic management is a growing area of focus for air mobility where commercial DroneTech has become more commonplace while progress is made on making eVTOL aircrafts a reality. The new partnership indicates that NASA is hoping to leverage Lacuna’s expertise in smart mobility where its fully owned consultancy arm Ellis & Associates provides consultancy services for mobility planning and policy setting to help design its own regulatory framework for air mobility. The firm is also an advocate and member of the open mobility foundation and contributes to projects such as mobility data specifications to provide open-source resources to developers.
