MatSmart’s Motatos brand raises EUR 38 million in Series D funding

Funding

  • Based in Sweden, MatSmart’s brand Motatos, an online marketplace that sells surplus production from producers to consumers at reduced prices, has raised EUR 38 million (~USD 37.9 million) in a Series D funding round led by SEB Private Equity and Exor Capital.

  • The round raised funds via a directed new share issue to existing shareholders and valued the company at over EUR 300 million (~USD 199.4 million), reportedly a 30% increase in valuation since the funding round in November 2021.

  • The funds will support Motatos in accelerating growth in its key markets Germany and the UK. The brand is also looking to further develop its business model and expand services to customers across all markets.
