Mantle, a seller of 3D printers and related products, has announced the launch of a series of printers that targets the 3D printing of molds to be used in the making of injection-mold plastics.
The printers are based on fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology which adds metal powder in layers through a liquid carrier. Each of these layers is dried after deposition which results in a densely packed mold achieving the required strength required for a mold.
Mantle reports that the new system can reduce the time taken to make a mold by around 70% while reducing the cost by around 50%.
The printers are priced at USD 350,000 and delivery of the first system is planned for 1H 2023.
