3D Systems introduces CuNi30–a new material to reduce lead time and improve density of printed parts

Product updates

  • 3D Systems, a seller of 3D printers and related products, has introduced CuNi30–a new corrosion-resistant, copper-nickel alloy compatible with its DMP Flex 350 printer.

  • The material was co-developed by 3D Systems and shipbuilding company HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division. The shipbuilder will use the material to meet its low-volume, high-mix hardware development requirements by substituting traditional casting technologies with additive manufacturing.

  • CuNi30 is expected to reduce the lead time by around 75% and significantly improve the average density of parts to 99.88% compared to casting as well as reducing inventory costs.

  • 3D Systems plans to make the material commercially available later this year to enable the printing of corrosion and algae-resistant metal parts targeting marine, offshore oil and gas, and chemical and nuclear industries.
