Velo3D introduces new tool steel for advanced tooling applications

Product updates

 • Velo3D, a provider of end-to-end metal additive manufacturing (AM) solutions including sale of printer systems and on-demand manufacturing services, has introduced M300 tool steel—a new ultra-low carbon alloy that is suitable for manufacturing of tools and molds that require high levels of strength.

 • The new material is compatible with Velo3D’s Sapphire printer system. With this, the company reports that it will be able to serve customers in the automotive industry to make inserts, molds, and tools that are widely used to manufacture parts in the industry.

 • Deliveries of the new material and systems are expected to commence later this year.

Analyst QuickTake: Velo3D previously served aerospace, aviation, power, and oil and gas industries to make specialized end-use parts like microturbines, high-pressure tanks, turbo pumps, and heat exchangers. With the new material, the company will be able to expand its market by being able to meet the tooling and molding requirements of automotive as well as other industries.
