Wicked Kitchen, a UK-based producer of plant-based meats, announced that it has acquired plant-based seafood producer Good Catch’s North American channels from its parent company Gathered Foods for an undisclosed amount with Gathered Foods becoming a Wicked Kitchen Shareholder.
The two companies will work in collaboration for product development while Good Catch is also set to aid Wicked Kitchen to expand into the food service industry. Good Catch branding and name will be retained allowing Wicked Kitchen to add the former’s products to its portfolio which will include frozen and ambient plant-based seafood.
Wicked and Good Catch was co-founded by brothers Derek and Chad Sarno and the latter will act as a chief culinary officer for both brands.
Analyst QuickTake: Plant-based seafood has been a segment with a lower number of producers compared to segments such as plant-based beef and poultry. However, we witnessed an increase in plant-based seafood launches during Q1 2022 as startups attempted to venture into this relatively less explored category. While the seafood segment is currently small it is expected to grow rapidly and the company could benefit from expanding to seafood consumption-heavy markets.
