Climeworks and Carbfix methodologies verified by DNV

Partnerships

  • Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, together with Carbfix, an Icelandic carbon sequestration company, partnered with DNV, an international risk management and assurance provider, to develop and implement the world’s first full-chain certification methodology dedicated to carbon dioxide removal (CDR) via direct air capture (DAC) and underground mineralization storage.

  • Climeworks’ CDR and Carbfix’s carbon sequestration were granted third-party verification by the audit conducted by DNV. This implies accurate reporting and measurement of CO2 capture and the permanent removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. This methodology complied with ISO 14064-2 standards.

  • In addition, DNV verified the implementation of the project and the production of CDR at the Climeworks orca plant
