MicroHarvest, a German startup using precision fermentation technology for the production of alternative proteins, raised EUR 8.5 million (~USD 8.5 million) in a Series A funding round co-led by Astanor Ventures and Happiness Capital, with participation from Faber and FoodLabs.
The company expects to use the funding to expand its R&D team, build a pilot plant in Lisbon, and expedite commercial-scale production.
MicroHarvest, founded in 2021, developed a precision fermentation method that it claims to be the world’s fastest protein production system. According to the company, the process can deliver complete protein products within a single day compared to months needed for plant and animal-based methods.
