Firefly Aerospace, a startup that designs, manufactures, and operates launch and spacecraft vehicles for small payloads, announced that it was awarded a Contract worth USD 17.6 million for the tactically responsive space (TacRS-3) launch service task order under the Orbital Services Program 4 (OSP-4) Contract by the US Space Force.
The program's objective is to strengthen American "responsive space" capabilities, enabling quick satellite deployment in times of crisis. The VICTUS NOX mission, which includes the launch phase, space segment, ground segment, and on-orbit activities, will showcase an end-to-end Tactically Responsive Space capability. A Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission will be carried out by VICTUS NOX from Low-Earth Orbit (LEO).
Analyst QuickTake : The award comes less than a week after Firefly Aerospace launched its first rocket (Alpha) to orbit , making it the fifth US rocket manufacturer to reach orbit in the past 15 years.
