Spinnova receives EUR 1.6 million in grant funding

Funding

  • Spinnova, a Finnish producer of cellulose-based sustainable textile fiber, has received a grant of a maximum of EUR 1.6 million (~USD 1.6 million) from Business Finland as part of the European Union’s “NextGenerationEU” financing program and Finland’s “Bio & Circular Finland” sustainable growth program.

  • The funds will be used for Spinnova’s R&D project on its technology and fiber applications. The project will focus on identifying new applications for Spinnova’s material such as composites and non-wovens and the development of “dope-dye” technology where the fibers are dyed already before yarn production. Dope-dye technology claims to reduce water, energy, and chemical usage compared to conventional dyeing.

  • This grant represents 50% of the total project cost estimate of EUR 3.2 million (~USD 3.2 million) and will be granted during the time period of 1 October 2022 to 31 December 2024.
