Fluence and TransnetBW to deploy a storage-as-transmission project

Partnerships

  • Fluence Energy GmbH, a subsidiary of Fluence Energy, a Nasdaq-listed company offering long-duration energy storage solutions and AI-enabled energy storage optimization software, partnered with TransnetBW, the transmission system operator of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

  • Together, the two companies plan to deploy the world’s largest battery-based energy storage-as-transmission project known as “Netzbooster” to improve energy security and support Germany’s energy transition by improving the efficiency of the existing grid infrastructure. As such, Fluence will be providing a 250 MW battery-based energy storage system which is set to be completed in 2025.

  • The Netzbooster initiative was first introduced in 2019 under the 2030 German grid development plan. The TransnetBW Netzbooster with Fluence’s storage system allows existing transmission infrastructure to be more efficient and lowers the need for preventive redispatch measures. This in turn reduces network reinforcement and operating costs, decreasing network charges and finally reducing energy costs to consumers.
