Desktop Health receives FDA clearance for a resin that targets healthcare applications

FDA approval

  • Desktop Health, the healthcare division of Desktop metal–a seller of 3D printers and related products, has announced that it has received FDA 510(k) clearance for SmileGuard, a resin developed for orthodontic and dental appliances like bite splints, night guards, and mouth guards.

  • The light-curable biocompatible material is compatible with Desktop Metal’s “The Einstein” printer and allows dentists and labs to print dental products in the office in as little as one hour and delivered them to the patient on the same day.

  • Desktop Metal claims that the material solves issues associated with 3D printed dental products in the market by offering a strong yet soft material that is durable and comfortable to the patient at the same time.
