Meta announced that its new VR headset, the Quest Pro, is available for preorder now. The headset, which is pitched as a productivity device, retails at USD 1,499.
The headset’s highlighted feature is full color passthrough, where four outer cameras will capture and display the user’s surroundings in high resolution. Further, it integrates eye-tracking and also allows users to choose the extent of how much light is blocked out. However, the reported battery life (1-2 hours per charge) represents its biggest drawback.
The Quest Pro also sports improved specs such as ‘pancake’ lenses, which have reduced the display stack by 40% compared to the Quest 2, and redesigned controllers tracked by three onboard cameras, instead of tracking rings, and Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ chipset.
Analyst QuickTake : Meta announced the launch of the Quest Pro as initially reported but many expected it to be a consumer-focused headset with social features, which does not appear to be the case. As a result, the headset is going to be sold at a significant premium to its Quest 2 (USD 399). Meta has additional headsets codenamed Funston, Stinson, and Cardiff under development.
