Cognitec upgrades technology to detect masked faces

Product updates

  • Cognitec, a German facial recognition solution provider, announced the upgrade of its main facial recognition algorithm to improve accuracy when detecting masked faces. Its age estimation technology has also been upgraded.

  • The company claims the new algorithm is capable of conducting facial recognition searches on images with or without face masks with almost the same levels of accuracy, and is preparing to incorporate the new technology in all of its products.

  • Cognitec's facial recognition system employs a proprietary sensor that can distinguish between real human faces and spoofing artifacts such as printed images and masks. As of August 2020, the company had delivered its services to around 200 customers in more than 50 countries in the areas of law enforcement, border control, and video surveillance.
