The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) passed a bill legalizing the use of digital license plates statewide following the pilot program started in 2018.
However, only Reviver, a startup offering digital license plates, is allowed to sell digital plates within the state. Reviver noted that approximately 10,000 vehicles in California are already equipped with these plates as a part of the pilot program.
The battery-powered digital plate is available on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis at USD 19.95 per month (or a four-year subscription of USD 215.40), while the hardwired commercial plate is offered for USD 24.95 per month (or a four-year subscription of USD 275.40). Installation of the plate costs USD 150.
