Drone Express, the drone delivery arm of TELEGRID Technologies Inc., has partnered with retailer Kroger Co. to pilot drone-based grocery deliveries from a store in Centerville, Ohio.
The companies claim that orders will be delivered within 15 minutes of customer purchases via Kroger’s dedicated website. The customers will have the flexibility to get packages delivered to the location of their smartphones without being limited to street addresses.
The companies plan to expand the service to include a Ralphs store, a banner owned by Kroger, in California this summer.
TELEGRID Technologies develops and manufactures communications, networking equipment, and systems for the US military and government agencies. The Drone Express division of TELEGRID, founded in 2018, is currently working toward the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Part 135 certification, which permits commercial deliveries on a trial basis. As of April 2021, Drone Express had operations in California, New Jersey, and Ohio.
