California-based startup producing plant-based cheese New Culture announced it has secured an undisclosed investment from Korean conglomerate CJ Cheijedang—a leading supplier of fermented bioproducts and 25% market share holder of the US frozen pizza market.
The investment is expected to support product development and efforts in scaling up the production of New Culture’s animal-free mozzarella expected to launch in pizzerias in 2023.
Analyst QuickTake: New Culture has not yet commercialized its first product but has been taking steps towards reaching this goal which is slated for 2023. In November 2021 the company raised USD 25 million in a Series A funding round and partnered with leading ingredients manufacturer Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in August 2022.
