Pony.ai to develop ADAS solutions for passenger vehicles

Product updates

  • Pony.ai, a China and US-based self-driving vehicle technology company, has established a new department to develop advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for passenger vehicle OEMs. The move expands the company’s focus beyond its current autonomous taxis and trucks development efforts.

  • Reportedly, the division has already secured a contract from an unnamed automaker to install ADAS technologies in a vehicle model scheduled for mass production next year.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Today we see autonomous driving tech developers increasingly shifting their focus toward the development of safety and driving assist tools. In fact, Stellantis, a Netherland-based multinational automotive manufacturer, acquired aiMotive, a Hungary-based developer of modular self-driving and ADAS technologies, last week to complement the development of driver assistance features. Ford too announced plans to focus on ADAS tech instead, after closing down its autonomous tech development unit Argo AI.
