Manchester-based biotech startup Bright Biotech has raised USD 3.2 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round led by Food Lab with participation from Big Idea Ventures, CPT Capital, FoodHack syndicate, and other angel investors.
The funding is expected to be used for the next phase of R&D–focus on identifying and engineering methods for producing cultured meat growth factors–and for the recruitment of stem-cell biology experts for the team.
Founded in 2020, Bright Biotech is a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in the production of recombinant proteins for R&D, therapeutic, cosmetical, agri-food, and industrial applications. The company is involved in developing cultured meat growth factors using organelles from plant cells as opposed to animal cells which are widely used in the industry.
