Do Good Foods, a meat producer that upcycles surplus food from grocery stores and supermarkets into nutrient-dense animal feed, launched a new carbon-friendly line of eggs called “Do Good Eggs.”
The company also announced a partnership with Michael Foods, the largest foodservice supplier of egg products in the US, to supply Do Good Eggs to food service venues nationwide from 2023.
The launch of Do Good Eggs follows the successful launch of its proof-of-concept (PoC) carbon-friendly Do Good Chicken products in April 2022. The eggs are reportedly produced from a sustainably raised Do Good Chicken line and in a cage-free environment. The company claims that every dozen Do Good Eggs prevent up to one pound of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere and also helps food service companies reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
As of October 2022, Do Good Chicken sales had diverted more than 11 million pounds of leftover grocery food from landfills for upcycled nutrient-dense chicken feed. The company operates a state-of-the-art facility that can upcycle 160 tons of surplus food into chicken feed every day, and plans to open two more facilities in Indiana and North Carolina over the next two years.
