Aurora Innovation (Aurora), an autonomous vehicle technology startup, expanded its autonomous trucking pilot with Uber’s online freight matching solution Uber Freight to include a new 600-mile commercial lane between Fort Worth and El Paso, Texas through and beyond the holiday season.
The lane was launched in October, and Uber Freight’s customer Veritiv Corp, a distributor of customized packaging solutions across North America, has been an early adopter of the route. The companies hauled goods between Aurora’s facilities in Fort Worth and El Paso with a driver on board to handle the first and the final leg of the deliveries.
Analyst QuickTake: Aurora first announced the multiphase commercial pilot with Uber Freight a year ago, to haul goods between Dallas and Houston in Texas. Uber Freight also has a June 2022 partnership with Google’s self-driving tech division Waymo to introduce autonomous trucks into Uber Freight’s marketplace in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas.
