Black Sheep Foods raises USD 12.3 million in Series A funding

Funding

  • Black Sheep Foods, a California-based plant-based meat producer, raised USD 12.3 million in a Series A funding round led by Unovis, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, AgFunder, and KBW Ventures bringing the total funds raised to date to USD 18.05 million.

  • The funding raised will be deployed towards product development, R&D teams, and sales & marketing. It will also enable the company to move from its current capacity of 5000 lbs per month to 16 million lbs per year with increased production slated to begin in 1Q 2023.

  • Focussing on plant-based lamb as opposed to favorites such as beef, chicken, and pork, the company has grown its foodservice network to 44 restaurants since its plant-based lamb debut in San Francisco and Los Angeles restaurants in 2021.
