The UK has launched its first standalone 5G network in Milton Keynes in a project named “MK:5G,” which enables the testing of 5G-powered robots, autonomous vehicles, medical devices, etc.
The project brings together five organizations for the initial trials, including autonomous delivery vehicle (ADV) developer Academy of Robotics and teleoperations systems provider Imperium Drive.
Academy of Robotics (the developer of the ADV “Kar-go”) is set to begin testing its units under the 5G network and believes the connection would enable the company to remotely monitor and control the vehicles more accurately.
Meanwhile, Imperium Drive also believes the project would enable remote monitoring and the control of automated vehicles and droids using live video and sensor feeds over the network. The company plans to trial its technology with several automated vehicle operators later this year.
