Matternet, a drone-based delivery solutions provider, has commenced delivery trials on a 3.1-mile beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) route in Zurich, Switzerland–reportedly the world’s longest drone-based delivery route over a major city.
The company uses the route to transport patient diagnostic samples between the Triemli and Waid Hospitals – both a part of Stadspital Zurich, a municipal central hospital owned by the city of Zurich.
The drones fly autonomously but are supervised by drone pilots at its Mission Control Center in Zurich. The company claims the deliveries can be conducted within seven minutes.
