California-based plant-based meat producer Better Meat Co signed a joint development agreement with Maple Leaf subsidiary Greenleaf Foods (owner of Lightlife and Field Roast brands).
Through the partnership, the companies will explore innovations in alternative proteins by leveraging Better Meat’s Rhiza mycoprotein ingredient, which can both be used as a meat enhancer and a meat substitute.
According to the chief R&D and food technology officer at Greenleaf Foods, Jitendra Sagili, the collaboration will enable further diversification of its portfolio and allow for new opportunities in potential alternative protein sources.
