Heura Foods, a Spanish producer of plant-based meats, entered into the plant-based seafood category with the release of its vegan F’sh Fillet and F’sh Fingers.
These products, which have been in development for over a year, are low in saturated fat, high in plant-based protein, and contain 40 milligrams of Omega-3 fatty acids, according to the company.
Heura claims it is the first company to conduct a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) for plant-based fish based on the ISO 14040 standard, according to which the impact of Heura is 70% less than conventional fish.
Analyst QuickTake: Having been involved in plant-based beef, poultry, and pork so far, the launch of plant-based fish allows Heura to attain market share from another segment, which will bring the company a step closer to its goal of becoming a plant-based market leader in Europe by 2027. The company also launched a EUR 20 million (~USD 20 million) bridge funding round in October 2022 and launched products at 200 Waitrose stores in December 2022, which is a testament to the company's continued efforts in pursuing growth.
