Vgarden launches vegan canned tuna made with plant-protein

Product updates

  • Israeli company Vgarden (known as Mashu Mashu in Israel), a developer of plant-based alternatives, launched vegan canned tuna—after 12 months of experimentation with ingredients and processes—which it claims to be 100% plant-derived.

  • The tuna analog is pea-protein based and contains a short list of plant ingredients including fibers and sunflower oil. The patent-pending formula and process for the vegan tuna allow the product to be tinned and sterilized at high temperatures while retaining full flavor and texture.

  • Retail and food service rollout has already begun in two packaging formats (a pouch for chilled storage and actual cans). According to the company, this product can be substituted for real tuna in any traditional tuna-based recipe.
