Pimax announces compact Dream Air VR headset for USD 1,900

Product updates

  • Pimax, a Chinese VR headset manufacturer, announced its new compact Dream Air VR headset, set to be released in May 2025 and available for pre-order at a price of USD 1,900.

  • The Dream Air headset is lightweight and offers features such as a 13MP (3,840 × 3,552) micro-OLED resolution per eye at 90Hz with HDR, a 102° field of view, and inside-out tracking. It also features motion controllers and hand tracking, onboard audio, options for prescription lenses, eye tracking, and automatic IPD and strap tightening.

  • One of the key benefits of Dream Air is the automatic strap tightening feature, which is claimed to be an industry-first. It aims to balance comfort and stability perfectly, improving the user experience. In addition, the headset's automatic IPD adjustment feature adjusts the distance between the lenses to match the user's eye width, making it easier to use and improving the user's vision.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Pimax introduced the Crystal Super ( USD 1,799) and Crystal Light ( USD 699) in April 2024, with the Super offering premium features like QLED/micro OLED panel interchangeability, while the Light focuses on affordability with lower resolution and fewer features. The Dream Air, weighing 200 g, targets portability with a 3,840 x 3,552 resolution, similar to the Crystal Super, but lacks advanced features such as dynamic foveated rendering. It outperforms the Crystal Light with eye-tracking, automatic IPD, motion controllers, and hand-tracking. The Dream Air aims for a lightweight, user-friendly experience, foregoing some high-end features for portability.
