Flashfood, a Canadian startup offering an app to help reduce food waste, expanded its services with Stop & Shop, a US supermarket chain, to add 34 Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts and 21 Stop & Shop stores in Rhode Island.
Flashfood allows shoppers to save up to 50% off items nearing their best-by dates, such as meats, dairy, seafood, fresh produce, baked goods, and more. Shoppers can browse and buy discounted items directly from their mobile phones using the Flashfood app and then pick up their order from the Flashfood Zone.
Since Flashfood’s partnership with Stop & Shop in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 2021, Flashfood expanded to nearly 70 Stop & Shop locations in Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island, diverting about 170,000 pounds of food from landfills and preventing the release of 319,200 pounds of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere.
