Tesla has announced plans to invest USD 3.6 billion to expand the manufacturing capabilities of its Nevada Gigafactory. The company plans to add 3,000 jobs and 4 million square feet to the existing capacity of the facility.
The expansion is expected to support the high-volume production of electric semi-trucks by enabling the factory to produce enough cell batteries for 2 million light-duty vehicles annually.
The expansion will bring the company closer to its goal of ramping up Tesla Semi truck production to produce 50,000 trucks in 2024 in North America.
