California-based PsiQuantum and Atom Computing, and big-tech company Microsoft have been selected to be a part of the Underexplored Systems for Utility-Scale Quantum Computing (US2QC) program initiated by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
The program—planned for five years across four phases—will focus on identifying the possibility of underexplored quantum computing approaches being able to unlock utility-scale activity sooner than current predictions.
The first phase will involve each organization presenting their design concepts to develop a utility-scale quantum computer, which will be evaluated by DARPA-led test and validation teams, and other experts from government-backed organizations.
