Czech-based cultivated meat startup, Mewery Meats, announced developing what it claims to be the world’s first cultivated meat prototype using hybrid culture medium and microalgae extracts, which is 75% pork and 25% microalgae cells.
According to the company, the use of microorganisms enables the elimination of fetal bovine serum (FBS), reduction in costs, and harnesses additional nutrients. Further, it claimed its cultivated meat is 100% cellular and does not rely on soy or pea proteins.
The company seeks to launch its first range of market-ready products (pork meatballs and pork sausage) within two years. It will work toward securing funding in 2023 for this purpose, as well as continue to work on its biobank cell repository and the build out of large-scale bioreactors for scaled production.
