Shopic, an Israel-based developer of smart cart solutions, has partnered with the American supermarket chain Wegmans to pilot Shopic smart carts at two Wegmans locations—Alberta Drive and Pittsford stores in New York.
The solution, still in the early stages of technology, is equipped with cameras and sensors to track the items shoppers buy/remove from carts. However, the device does not yet have heat-mapping capabilities or the ability to scan multiple items simultaneously.
Analyst QuickTake : In 2019, Wegmans launched its own self-checkout mobile app. However, this was discontinued in September 2022 due to high theft rates.
