Bioweg partners with Ginkgo Bioworks to develop bio-based materials

Partnerships

  • Bioweg (formerly Cellulosic Technologies), a German producer of customizable bio-based materials, has collaborated with Ginkgo Bioworks, a leading platform for cell programming and biosecurity.

  • Through this collaboration, the companies intend to optimize bacterial cellulose production and develop novel cellulose variants with improved performance.

  • Founded in 2019, Bioweg, a company based in Niedersachsen, Germany, explores and combines biotechnology, material science, and molecular simulations learning to create and sell advanced sustainable and bio-based ingredients. Bioweg develops bacterial cellulose-based components for personal care, cosmetics, seed and fertilizer coating, and the processed food industry. Bioweg develops these solutions using waste or by-products from the food industry as feedstock.
