Healthcare XR solutions provider, FYR Medical, raised USD 2.6 million in a Series A financing round led by spine technology innovator, NuVasive, with participation from other firms and individual investors.
Funding is to be utilized to create XR digital loupes focused on spinal surgery that use light field technology to reduce eye strain and discomfort commonly experienced with AR and VR headsets. Further applications include within a range of operating rooms, areas of telemedicine, and training sites.
FYR Medical is a healthcare company working to commercialize light field electro-optical technology, which Lockheed Martin originally invented. The technology is designed to solve major pain points of existing head-mounted displays (HMDs) in the medical visualization industry. FYR Medical is made up of the original team from Lockheed Martin that invented and developed the technology, as well as other employees.
Analyst QuickTake: FYR Medical’s funding round follows the FDA clearance received by MedTech company, apoQlar, in December 2022 and the funding round for AR medical software company, Augmedit, in November 2022 , showcasing investor interest in MedTech applications. The tech provided by FYR Medical could accelerate the viability of AR technology for surgical procedures by providing electro-optical technology to support other AR medical companies such as Augmedics .
