Silvis Materials, a Boulder-based female-founded bio-based materials company, received a USD 255,810 small business innovation research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), following a USD 150,000 Advanced Industries Award from the Colorado Department of Economic Development.
The company would use the grants to develop Renewable Cellulosic Emulsions, a biodegradable, sustainable alternative used in packaging and construction materials aiming to reduce carbon footprint.
Founded in 2020, Silvis Materials manufactures 100% sustainable, biodegradable cellulose emulsions enabling companies to create cradle-to-grave packaging, coatings, and glues free of petroleum-derived materials. Silvis Materials has partnerships with Oak Ridge National Labs, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Silvis established customer relationships with over 20 Fortune 500 companies by participating in the Plug-and-Play accelerator (a program connecting the largest corporations to the world's best startups).
