The Very Good Food Company goes into receivership

Industry news

  • Canadian plant-based meat producer, The Very Good Food Company (VGFC), will reportedly have to shut its operations down this month, following financial turmoil that led to the company being placed in receivership.

  • Since April 2022, there were several CEO changes within the company, with VGFC declaring the need for additional funds to cover its ongoing obligations in August 2022, despite having raised USD 6.5 million in a private placement agreement.

  • Following this series of events, VGFC was led to receivership by order of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. In January 2023, accounting and consulting firm BDO Canada was appointed by the company to “solicit bids for the assets or a restructuring of the company,” marking the end of operations of the plant-based meat producer.
